Side extension, Ferring

This project addresses one of the most practical briefs in residential architecture — how to make a family home work for multiple generations living under one roof, without breaking the budget.

The brief was to extend a three-bedroom semi-detached property in Ferring to create a self-contained annexe for the older generation of the household. The design prioritises privacy and independence while keeping shared facilities genuinely practical for communal living. The two parts of the house needed to feel connected enough to function as one home, and separate enough to give everyone their own space.

Materials and construction methods were selected to deliver the best possible value without compromising the quality of the result. The design is kept intentionally simple — to ensure deliverability to a given budget.
