Project overview.
Weald House is a Para 84 (now Paragraph 84(e) of the NPPF) exceptional quality new dwelling in Keymer, Sussex. The original planning permission was secured in 2016 by Ecotecture Ltd (the original concept architects) under what was then Paragraph 55, for a scheme that responded to its rural setting through considered form and landscape integration.
Jake White contributed to the project during his time at Morgan Carn Architects, where the team revisited the consented scheme to introduce additional utility space at lower ground floor level and a secondary entrance. The technical package was developed in close collaboration with Beattie Passive, with all building fabric elements designed to significantly exceed Passivhaus requirements.
The project represents the upper end of what fabric-first residential design can achieve; a building that performs as well as it looks.
Both Weald House and Shards were recognised at the Sussex Heritage Trust 2024 Small Scale Residential Awards, submitted by Morgan Carn Architects.
